Insider Tips of the Week
Here are three tricks you can use to save money, while making your life around the house better… 1. Shorten your dryer vent hose. Disconnect it, vacuum it out, then trim it down so it’s just long enough for you to pull the dryer a few feet out from the wall. You’ll save about $25 a year, and your clothes will dry about 20% faster. 2. Replace central air conditioning filters every month during the summer. This keeps air flowing freely through the ducts and reduces strain on the blower motor. Your house will cool down a bit faster as well. Three filters cost about $10, and you’ll save about $40 or more on cooling costs. 3. Insulate hot water lines. Preformed foam tubes slide right over pipes, thanks to a slit along their length. They only cost about $0.30 to $0.40 per foot, will save you about $50 per year on energy, and it’ll cut the wait for hot water to reach upstairs faucets in half. |
